Adderall Use

Adderall is a performance-enhancing prescription, narcotic drug used to treat ADHD or ADD along with narcolepsy. Adderall is a brand name psych stimulant meaning that it stimulates the serotonin and dopamine receptors in the brain and causes more alertness, ability to focus, feel good feelings and concentration. Adderall is taken orally but can be used recreationally by snorting or shooting. Because Adderall crosses the blood brain barrier it has a high likelihood of abuse. Adderall hit the market in 1993 and has been commonly prescribed to people since then. Adderall is made up of different amphetamine salts. An amphetamine is classified with street drugs such as meth and cocaine.

Adderall use when used as prescribed can be very beneficial for the person with an attention deficit disorder or narcolepsy. Since Adderall is pure amphetamine salts it has a high risk of being used for recreational purposes. Adderall use for recreational purposes can have severe short and long-term effects on a person. Adderall use can easily become an addiction problem too. Adderall use is especially rampant among college campuses as more students are using Adderall to cram for tests or stay up finishing that paper that they otherwise would not be able to finish.  Drug and alcohol treatment programs have seen an increase in intake for Adderall abuse. Adderall use can easily be pushed to the wayside as not being a problem because it is a prescription drug. This is not the case. Just because Adderall use for the most part is prescribed does not mean that it cannot become a problem or is not a problem for some people.

Adderall use can become a problem if taken in high doses regularly and if it does become a problem the best idea is to seek out a drug treatment program to help with the addiction. The best way to know if your Adderall use has become a problem is to try to stop and see if you experience any kind of withdrawal symptoms or strong cravings to use Adderall again. If this is the case your Adderall use may have turned into Adderall abuse.

While Adderall began as a drug to help people with different disorders it has now become a commonplace recreational drug mainly among students. Therefore it is best if you make sure you truly need to be on a prescription narcotic such as Adderall before you begin taking it. Adderall use is something that can become highly dangerous and can have some serious health effects on the brain, heart and entire body.  Adderall use be handled with care and only taken when prescribed by a doctor if absolutely needed.
